Measurement Units

Length

Miles (mi) - All distances in this Map Service are reported in miles.

Concentration

Micrograms per Liter (µg/L) - All selenium concentrations in aqueous matrices are reported in µg/L - µg of selenium per L of water, one µg/L is roughly equivalent to one part per billion.

Milligrams per Liter (mg/L) - In aqueous applications, one mg/L is roughly equivalent to one part per million.

Micrograms per Kilogram (µg/kg) - These units are used to report concentration of analyte in plant samples - micrograms of analyte per kilogram of sample. Equivalent to parts per billion (ppb).

Micrograms per Gram (µg/g) - These units are used to report concentration of analyte in plant samples - micrograms of analyte per gram of sample. Equivalent to parts per million (ppm).

Parts per Million (ppm) - units of mass of analyte per million units of mass of sample (e.g. 20 ppm Selenium = 20 grams of selenium per million grams of water sampled = 20 milligrams).

Parts per Billion (ppb) - units of mass of analyte per billion units of mass of sample.
